William Heard is the founder of Heard Capital LLC, and serves as the company’s Chief Executive Officer and Chief Investment Officer.
Prior to founding and leading Heard Capital LLC, Heard was a Special Situations Analyst for Stark Investments, a global alternative investment firm. While at Stark Investments, he covered sectors spanning telecommunications, media, technology, financials, industrials, and energy.
Heard’s investment experience varies across the capital structure to include leveraged loans, high yield bonds and equity securities.
Heard currently serves on the Leadership Council for A Better Chicago, City Year Chicago Board of Directors, and actively participates in OneGoal; a diverse collective of local organizations creating opportunities for today’s youth and low-income population.
Heard is a member of the President’s Circle and Young Professional Network for the Chicago Council on Global Affairs, Forbes Finance Council, and is a participating Advisory Board member for the Blackstone Foundation Inclusive Entrepreneurship Council for World Business Chicago and ChicagoNEXT. As an Advisor, Heard is part of a small group that will award grants to innovative organizations that effectively support diverse entrepreneurs and scale start-ups in the Chicago area.
Heard is a graduate of the Marquette University’s College of Business Administration with a bachelors in both Finance and Real Estate. During his time at Marquette, he founded and established the Applied Investment Management (AIM) Program at Marquette University. AIM was the first undergraduate business program in the nation to be selected as a Program Partner by the CFA Institute.
A strong proponent of higher education, Heard gives motivational speeches to students about leadership, globalism, and the nature of competition. In his spare time, he enjoys mentoring and reading.
Joseph Lee, Partner at Heard Capital LLC, holds an MBA with honors distinction from The University of Chicago Booth School of Business and a B.A. in Economics from The University of Chicago. Lee’s mandate is to generate investment ideas with high expected risk adjusted returns via a combination of deep fundamental research and quantitative screening methodologies. Lee also assists with performance attribution analysis, risk management and trade execution.
Prior to joining Heard Capital LLC as an Equity Research Intern in 2014, Lee was a discretionary futures trader for nearly 10 years, specializing in Treasury yield curve spreads and TED spreads. Lee was responsible for researching, developing and executing both momentum and mean reversion driven strategies. Prior to rejoining Heard Capital LLC in September 2015, Lee was a Summer Associate with the Strategy Group at The University of Chicago Investment Office, where he conducted manager due diligence on discretionary and systematic global macro funds and performed various ad hoc projects involving valuation and momentum factor analysis.
Andrew Jesse is a partner at Heard Capital LLC where he heads the firm’s energy and industrials practice.
Prior to joining Heard Capital LLC, Andrew was a member of the Energy team for the Global Equities franchise at Citadel LLC, a global alternative investment firm. While at Citadel, Andrew was responsible for the construction and management of a long / short equity portfolio of oilfield service stocks that adhered to Citadel’s factor-neutral risk framework.
Prior to his time at Citadel, Andrew held positions on the energy teams of Green Arrow Capital Management (a Millennium Group Company) and BBT Capital Management (the family office for the scion of a Texas-based natural resources focused private enterprise). Andrew was also a member of the energy power & utilities investment banking division of Merrill Lynch. With the entirety of his career focused on the energy power & utilities space, Andrew has gained thorough experience across numerous sector sub-verticals including Upstream Oil & Natural Gas, Oilfield Services, Midstream Master Limited Partnerships, Merchant Power Generation and Regulated Utilities.
Andrew is a graduate of the Richard Farmer School of Business Administration at Miami University where he earned a Bachelor’s of Science degree with a concentration in finance and minor studies in both international business and German. Andrew currently sits on the Board of St. Procopius School in Chicago’s Pilsen neighborhood and is a member of the Chairman’s Advisory Council of Big Shoulders Fund, an organization focused on improving the quality of and access to primary education at Catholic schools in the neediest areas of inner-city Chicago.
